Markus Soukup (1974, Germany) is a video and sound artist living and working in London since 2012. He is interested in processes of perception and explores various methods to create communicative structures situated at an indistinct border between narrative and non-narrative. Fascinated by the screen as a window opening up to virtual spaces he searches for new ways of constructing and installing ‘situations’ or ‘(mental) objects’ in real and digital space(s). He mainly works with video, animation, sound design, electronic music & field recording, typography and digital photography.
His work has been shown in local, national and international exhibitions and festivals, for instance at the 11th international Media Art Biennale WRO 05 (Wroclaw, Poland, 2005), NEXT UP at the Bluecoat (Liverpool, UK, 2008), 10th Seoul International New Media Festival (Republic of Korea, 2010), I WALK THE LINE at ULTIMA festival for contemporary Music (Oslo, Norway, 2011), SELECTED screening tour by Videoclub & Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) (UK, 2012), ART.LANGUAGE.LOCATION at Contemporary & Performance Art Festival Anglia Ruskin Gallery (Cambridge, UK, 2016), POST ANALOGUE LABYRINTH at Sister Midnight Records Deptford-X Fringe (London, UK, 2018), SMOKE & FIRE at Bridewell Gallery & Studios Liverpool Biennial (UK 2018).
