Sebastián Guzmán was born in Medellín, Colombia. He studied Visual Arts, after previously studying Engineering Physics and Mechanical Engineering, as well as completing master’s degrees in engineering and renewable energy.
Sebastián then worked for twelve years as an engineer on infrastructure projects in the fields of energy and water.
This experience allowed him to engage deeply with ideas such as environmental devastation and unchecked accumulation, as well as to reflect on the notion of progress and the transformation of territory and landscape. Today, methods derived from both engineering and art intersect within his research and creative processes.
Sebastián has participated in SACO Biennial 1.2 in Antofagasta; Imagen Regional 10 at Banco de la República of Colombia (2025); the group exhibition Tesis at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bogotá (2024); and the solo exhibitions
Lo que todavía queda at the Jericó Art Museum (MAJA) and Panta Rei: Everything Flows, Everything Changes at the Vásquez Cultural Center in Medellín (2023).
