Tarona (1985, Curaçao) is an artist & director who has dedicated her career to exploring the complexities of identity while creating a space for the Black Diaspora to cultivate a new way of knowing and being. In 2021 she was granted a four year Mondriaan Fund for Established Artists to further expand her work, research and artistic practices after having received Mondriaan Fund Emerging Talent a year prior. An alumnus of the Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam, NL) with a BA in Photography and a minor in Critical Studies, she additionally studied Colour Correction for Film at the School of Visual Arts in New York. In 2020, she directed her first film titled ‘Pivot’; a film about Black performances in white spaces, which went on to be exhibited + screened across multiple institutes & festivals across Europe & US – and was selected by DWELLER, amongst 12 other films, to see its release on the Criterion Channel in 2024.
