Red Gate Residency is an international artist residency program providing artists, curators, writers, and academics with the opportunity to live and create work in China. The objective is to provide facilities for artists to easily start their projects and offer a community in which they can participate as much as they like.
Founded in 1991 by Brian Wallace, who first arrived in China in 1984, the residency is part of Red Gate Gallery, the first private contemporary art gallery to be established in China. Nowadays, Red Gate is recognized both as a tour de force and trail blazer in the history and development of the contemporary Chinese art scene.
