Maimuna Adam (Maputo, 1984) completed her BA in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria in 2008. She explores personal and historical narratives related to migration in her visual research, referring to images and text that she finds along the way. The artist uses painting techniques and makes books and installations with different materials such as coffee, ink, banana fibre paper, charcoal, acrylic, canvas, books and other found objects in an attempt to connect to moments and emotions that have passed. She seeks to examine notions of identity and the role of memory in relation to fictional and real narratives, questioning the role of images and objects in relation to the act of re-membering events that relate in an individual and universal way to the act of dislocation and travel. She lives and works in England.
