Nesta lecture dada por Jorge Cohen teremos um panorama sobre o cinema Angolano contemporâneo, com base na experiência adquirida pela produtora Geração 80 na última década, suportada por exemplos reais de produção dos filmes o Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês (2022), Ar Condicionado (2020) e Independência (2015). Num contexto com apoios e políticas culturais pouco claras, como criar uma modelo de negócio sustentável e garantir uma produção constante e de qualidade? Abordaremos essas questões, aprofundando temas como financiamento, constituição de equipa, distribuição e trabalho em colectivo.

Biografia

Jorge Cohen was born and raised in Luanda. Co-founder of Geração 80, an audiovisual production company that for the last 10 years has had the objective of connecting generations and producing national cinema. Today the motivation is still to see Angola on the screen, to tell African stories and collectively make cinema. Cohen understands the role of a producer to reinvent paradigms and the creation of sustainable models of cultural production.

Jorge has an MA in Global Cultural and Creative Industries from SOAS, University of London (2018) and an MA in Business Administration from the Catholic University of Lisbon (2009). He has produced most of the production company’s films, most notably Our Lady of the Chinese Shop (2022), Air Conditioning (2020) and Independence (2015), his work has circulated through dozens of film festivals and has been cherished nationally and internationally.
