André Príncipe (Oporto, 1976). Lives and works in Lisbon. Studied Psychology at Oporto University and graduated from Film school in Lisbon, 2001. Traveled extensively in America, Europe and Asia. Lived in NewYork City and London. At the center of his artistic practice is the sequence of images.

Exhibits regularly since 2004. Solo shows include: Walls at Centro Português de Fotografia (2005); Tunnels (2005), Smell of tiger precedes Tiger (2009) and Master and Everyone (2011) at Galeria Fernando Santos; I thought you knew where all the elephants lie down, at Centro Cultural de Ílhavo, 2010; Antena 2 (2014) at Galeria Pedro Alfacinha. Recent group shows: Le Bal and Galerie 12 mail in Paris; CGAC – Centro Galego Arte Contemporanea in Santiago Compostela, Spain; Centro José Guimarães, Portugal.

Directed many short and feature films: Traces of a diary, co-directed with Marco Martins is a film about Japanese photography with Nobuyoshi Araki, Daido Moriyama, Takuma Nakahira, etc. It won the Documenta Madrid honorary jury prize 2011 and showed in many international film festivals. Flamingo field without flamingos (Som & Fúria), his latest film was commercially released in 2014.

André Príncipe is the founder and co-editor of the artist run photo book publishing house Pierre von Kleist. PVK has worldwide distribution and is a regular presence at book fairs like NYArt Book Fair at MoMA PS1, Tokyo art book fair and Offprint Paris. Has published six books; Tunnels (Booth-Clibborn editions, London 2005), Master and Everyone (2010), I thought you knew the place where all the elephants lie down (2011), Perfume do Boi (2012), Smell of Tiger precedes Tiger (2012) and Tokyo Diaries (w/ Marco Martins, 2014), You´re living for nothing now (2015) all on PvK.
