Duarte Amaral Netto (Lisboa, 1976). Netto began his academic career with a major in Directing but transferred to the major in Cultural Communications. He graduated in 2003. In this year he had 2 individual exhibitions in Holland (MK Galerie –Roterdão and Nouvelles Images — Haia) and another in Lisbon at the Galeria Promontório as an integral part of the parallel circuit of LisboaPhoto. It was also in 2003 that he was accredited with the Grand Prix du 48eme Salon de Montrouge in Paris. After finishing the Advanced Photography course at Ar.Co. in 2000, he began to work with the Mödulo– Centro Difusor de Arte, where he showcased exhibitions. In 2005 he participated at the Curso de Fotografia do Programa Creatividade e Criação Artística da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. This course of specialization was coordinated by Sérdio Mah in collaboration with professors Stephen Shore, Thomas Demand, Patrick Faigenbaum, Joan Fontcuberta, Ute Eskildsen, Paul Wombell, Teresa Hubbard, Alexander Birchler. In collaboration with other participants of the course he formed the DOZE colllective that, among other endeavours, involved the project of residence Paisagem and Povoamento (in Sines) and Paisagem e Povoamento II (in Montemor-o-Novo) where he worked with Rodrigo Tavarela Peixoto.
His collective exhibitions include: On Side, Centro de Artes Visuais (Coimbra 2004); Casa de Luz Fundacion Foto Colectania (Barcelona 2004); Uma Extensão do Olhar, Centro de Artes Visuais (Coimbra 2005); Homo Migratius, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisbon 2007); Identity in Motion, MK Galerie (Berlin 2009); Impresiones y Comentarios Fotografia Contemporânea Portuguesa, Fundación Foto Colectania (Barcelona 2010); Do outro lado do Atlântico, Centro de Artes Helio Oticica (Rio de Janeiro 2010).
He has taught in the Photography program of the Insituto Politécnico de Tomar from 2003 and is represented by the Galeria Pedro Alfachinha (Lisbon). In 2012 he was nominated for the BES PHOTO 2012 award.
