Tiago Sant’Ana is a PhD student in Culture and Society at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. Working mainly in the performance field, he researchs its possible developments since 2009. As an artist, Sant’Ana immerses himself in the tensions and representations of Afro-Brazilian identities, influenced by the decolonial perspectives. Tiago uses sugar in his recent works, as a tactic to bring the debate about colonization closer to the present, especially regarding racism and violence against the black population. He also acts as an independent curator, developing projects that relate art, activism and cultural identities.
Tiago Sant’Ana was assistant curator of the 3ª Bienal da Bahia (2014) and a substitute professor at the Art department in the Federal University of Bahia between 2016 and 2017. Sant’Ana participated in national and international festivals and exhibitions. His most recent solo exhibition is “Casa de purgar” (2018), at Bahia Art Museum in Salvador.
