Maura Grimaldi lives and works in São Paulo (Brazil). She obtained a master’s degree in Visual Arts (2012) by the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo, Maura graduated in 2009 as a major in painting (ECA/USP). Since then, she has been working with photography and research. Grimalsi’s practice converge and dialogue three points of interest: the image as a magical experience; its ontology; and the technical devices and processes that are involved in the image conception, production and reproduction. Most of the artist interests lies upon subjects such as phantasmagoria, the invisible, the already obsolete photographic technologies and devices related to the immersive experience of images contemplation (panoramas, darkrooms, magic lantern and other optical devices.). It’s through the investigation of those subjects that Maura Grimaldi tries to reflect about the many conceptions of image.
