Marissa J. Moorman is Professor of African Cultural Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, PhD in African History (2004) from the University of Minnesota, USA, is the author of Intonations: a Social History of Music and Nation Luanda, Angola, 1945 to Recent Times, USA, Ohio University Press, 2008 and Powerful Frequencies: Radio, State Power, and the Cold War in Angola, 1931-2002, USA, Ohio University Press, 2019.

The author, in addition to several publications about music, media, fashion, cinema, radio and urban space, is editor of the academic journal The Journal of African History, Cambridge University Press; she is on the editorial board of the blog Africa is a Country; and is a member of the Radical History Review editorial collective.
