Born in Lisbon, in 1986.
Currently works in Lisbon.

Maria Sassetti has a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Lisbon, and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art from the Chelsea College of Art and Design. Since 2008, she has participated in solo, collective and co-authored projects. Her practice explores the underlying memories of a place, repetition, ephemeral and tensefull situations, working with drawing, light and object installation. Recent exhibitions include the solo show (2020) No Centro da Curva, text by Inês Valle, Banco das Artes Gallery, Leiria and (2019) Linha, Casa da Cultura, Comporta; group exhibitions include Off-Site, produced by Atelier Contencioso and Underdogs Gallery, Príncipe Real, Lisbon; Mano-a-Mano, curated by Jorge Catarino, Águas Livres 8 Gallery, Lisbon. She was represented at (2019) JustLx Art Fair with the work Fools Gold II, Roulote Artistic Projects; and (2018) XX Bienal de Cerveira, curated by Jaime Silva, Vila Nova de Cerveira.

She is a founding member of Tempos de Vista Collective, with whom she curated, produced and included several exhibitions: (2015) Circuitos de Repetição, Viarco, São João da Madeira; (2014) Estado de Sítio, Plataforma Revólver, Lisbon; (2011) O Espaço em Paralaxe, Astronomic Observatory, Lisbon. Since 2015, she is an active member of Atelier Contencioso, developing large scale, urban art interventions: (2020) Damasco Prateado, Livensa Living Entrecampos, Lisbon; (2016) Mamba de Jameson, Pensão Amor, Lisbon. With Atelier Contencioso, she won the Art Prize A Arte Chegou ao Colombo, with the installation Sopro (2020).

She worked at Wave Hill, New York in 2011, where she was a visual arts intern. Currently, she works as an art educator at CCB – Garagem Sul, and Carris Museum. She teaches Drawing, Painting and Anatomy at Odd-School – Digital Entertainment School, in Lisbon.
