James Oscar is a writer, art critic, curator of art and performance, and has been an anthropological graduate researcher in the sociology and anthropology of art at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique. His work lies at the intersection of art criticism, innovative curatorial methods, and anthropological investigations. He honed his craft studying under the close tutelage of Martiniquan poet Edouard Glissant, an influence that deeply shapes his approach. He has also recently been named director and chief curator at the project – the Musée des Arts Libres des Amériques et du Monde (MALAM) in Montreal which is made up of one of the most significant collections of Latin America and the Caribbean, showcasing works by esteemed Haitian masters and other contemporary artists.
