Christie is a spatial designer and artist whose practice entwines ecological thought with architectural design to weave alternative ways of being and offer critical reflections on existing institutional practices. With a background in architecture and urbanism, they have recently completed my Master’s degree in Environmental Architecture (Royal College of Art, 2023). Their practice is rooted in ecology – in both subject and spirit. Their master’s thesis – ‘Sedimentary Desiderata’ – critiqued the apparatus of anthropocenic design and asked how engaging with the world can be achieved in a non-extractivist, geologically engaged manner. Their ongoing project ‘Enclosure Quilts’, articulates questions of nature and landscape through quilt making, queering the aesthetic norms of how space is perceived and understood. In 2020, Christie graduated from the University of Cambridge in Architecture with a first-class degree. At 21, they became a visiting lecturer teaching a course on representation and the politics of visuality. They are a recipient of the Royal Institute of British Architect’s Boyd Auger Scholarship, awarded in recognition of their work on waste culture and the postcolonial politics of pollution. Christie has previously worked within the Architectural and Urban sector on civic projects including public sector city redevelopment and social housing projects. They have collaborated with international artists in the design and delivery of large-scale installations.
