Christian Lagata (Jerez de la Fra. 1986) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Madrid. He has exhibited individually and collectively in national institutions and contests such as PhotoEspaña, Conde Duque, Center del Carme, Fabra i Coats, Centro Párraga and galleries such as Luis Adelantado Valencia. He has made residencies at the Contemporary Creation Center of Andalusia, C3A in Córdoba, at the Fundación BilbaoArte Fundazioa and at Mira Forum, Porto (2018). Selected in A Secas. Artistas Andaluces de Ahora, CAAC (2017), in the XIX CALL of Luis Adelantado Valencia (2017) and winner of one of the Iniciarte production grants (2015). He has been a finalist of the Premi Miquel Casablancas (2018), of the second edition of the 20º FotoPres La Caixa (2016) and in PHotoEspaña – Best national photography book – with Up Around the Bend (2016). Selected in SCAN, Festival of International Photography of Tarragona (2016), Encontros de Artistas Novos V (2015) or Descubrimientos PHE (2014).
Lagata’s work process is based on searching, combining and remixing poor materials, found objects and wastes, signs that encourage him to experience new interpretive ways of what surrounds us. He is interested in the image and its imbrication with other media such as sculpture, installations, visual media and music, as well as the creation of scenographies, atmospheres or environments.
