Lerato Shadi by Icaro April 07, 2022 0 Portfolios

Lerato Shadi’s work challenges common assumptions to critique Western notions of history and make visible that which is invisible or overlooked. Working across video, performance and installation, and often employing repetitive processes, she argues the importance of centering – not just including – the marginalised body as a main figure of narrative experience. Her work has been shown internationally, in 2020 she had two solo shows at KINDL in Berlin and at Kunstverein in Hamburg; in numerous group exhibitions i.e., at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and Musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration (both 2021), the 14th Curitiba Biennial in Brasil (2019), Kunsthal KAdE Amersfoort and the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town (both 2018) as well as in the public program ‘The Parliament of Bodies’ at the documenta 14 in Kassel (2017).
