Kiva Sakona is Basque visual artist and researcher based in Amsterdam. Her multidisciplinary practice involves writing, video and installation work. She investigates how the aesthetic experiences of everyday life are tied to the ways in which advanced capitalism captures libidinal energy. She is interested in the visual and temporal conditions of the multimedia environments we inhabit and in how these are closely tied not only to the spirit of productivity of our time, but also to our capacity for attention, sensibility and imagination. Through narratives and experiences of space and time, she explores the ways in which our psychological and affective behaviours are interwoven with our audio-visual surroundings. She is currently interested in looking into specific practices of audio-visual production and consumption that are intertwined with the most intimate spheres of people’s lives.

Kiva holds a research master’s degree in Artistic Research from the University of Amsterdam, a master’s degree in Art Direction from ESCAC Film School, a bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of the Basque Country and Aarhus University, and a degree in Graphic Design from BAU College of Arts and Design. She is currently a member of TARR, the Third Cycle in Artistic Research at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.
