Jayden Barber (b. 2001, Providence, Rhode Island, USA) is an experimental composer and sound artist working with electronics and long, exposed cassette tape loops. Barber transforms the fragile medium of magnetic tape into a meditation on the beauty of impermanence and the evocative power of sound. His live performances, often staged in grand architectural spaces, mirror the scale and fragility of his work, creating immersive environments where sound and setting fuse into a transcendental experience. The sonic intensity of these performances is documented on Live at All Saints’ Memorial Church, which marked the inaugural concert of experimental music in a historic 19th-century church in his hometown of Providence. His EP Border Shift was praised by Italy’s Radioaktiv as one of the most exciting recent releases in the international experimental scene, and he has shared stages with Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails, Mute Records) and Benoît Pioulard (Kranky Records). Of Portuguese descent with family roots in the Açores and Faro, Barber also draws inspiration from the romance and saudade within the tradition of fado: the title of his debut LP I Don’t Confess It, Even to the Walls echoes a loose translation of Amália Rodrigues’ “Nem Às Paredes Confesso.” He makes his first trip to Portugal for a residency at HANGAR, where he will complete the recording of this album.
