Francisca Martínez Fernández

Francisca Martínez Fernández (1986) lives and works in Santiago, Chile.

“I move with simplicity and nurture the capacity for wonder; I capture signs. I make concrete observations that stem from the correspondences I establish with the environment I inhabit. I reflect on the changes that occur in the natural order of things, collecting elements, rhythms, and meanings that arise from moments of contemplation. I believe that nature establishes a mysterious connection with our most intimate feelings, and this manifests both in a minimal structure, like a stone, and in vast expanses, like a forest.

Because painting is the medium through which I create knowledge, my reflections emerge from the terrain of painting and its shifts. I gather things from different materials, assign them a poetic function, and in their representations, I seek to honor and replicate the behaviors of nature.”
