Artist Talk | Moisés Patrício

March 20th 2025 , 6pm

This talk will be held in portuguese

Free Entry

We propose a meeting with the visual artist and Babalorixá Moisés Patrício to talk about his career and artistic research, exploring the relationship between art, politics, ancestry and contemporaneity. Moisés is one of the leading names in contemporary Afro-Brazilian art, having taken part in prominent exhibitions such as Histórias Afro-Atlânticas at MASP and the Tomie Ohtake Institute, the Dakar Biennial and solo shows that investigate the intersection between spirituality, identity and memory.

During the talk, Moisés will share his experience as an artist and researcher, addressing how his practice is built on orality and the philosophy of terreiro/Candomblé. His series Aceita? (Do you accept?), which began in 2013, has become a milestone in his production, proposing a reflection on what we accept and reject culturally, tensioning issues of belonging and exclusion. He will also discuss his pictorial production and research into Afrocentric painting, in which he seeks to re-signify visual and historical narratives from a decolonial perspective.
