Rose Afefé

Rose Afefé spent her childhood in Varzedo, in the interior of Bahia, and grounds her artistic practice in the memories of this territory. She works across installation, painting, sculpture, and photography, exploring themes such as nature, traditions, and collective knowledge. In 2018, she began building Terra Afefé, a human-scale microcity made with adobe (raw clay bricks), in rural Ibicoara, in the Chapada Diamantina, in collaboration with the local community. Terra Afefé represents a possible utopia — a living space where art, life, and knowledge come together to strengthen local culture.

Rose won the FOCO Prize 2023, was nominated for the PIPA Prize 2022, and has exhibited her work at institutions such as MASP — Museu de Arte de São Paulo, CCSP, MAM Bahia, A Gentil Carioca, and the Fundación Pablo Atchugarry (Miami). She has also participated in artist residencies at La Fab (Paris), JA.CA, and Pivô Salvador.
