Applications are open until April 10th, 2020 for the second edition of UPCycles Audiovisual Creative Residence, in Maputo. Artistic Residency for emerging artists with funding from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

 

TUTORS 2020

ÂNGELA FERREIRA
Ângela Ferreira (1958) is an artist born in Mozambique, who grew up and studied in Cape Town (South Africa) and currently lives and works in Lisbon. Sla graduated in sculpture and obtained her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the Michaelis School of Fine Arts, University of Cape Town, South Africa. She holds a PhD from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon where she also teaches.

EDSON CHAGAS
Born in Luanda, Angola, in 1977, Edson Chagas graduated in photography at the University of Wales in Newport (2008); London College of Communication (2007); Technical School of Image and Communication of Portugal (2002) and Centro Comunitário de Arcena (1999). In 2013, the artist was selected to represent the Angolan Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale, with the Luanda encyclopedic project being awarded the Golden Lion for the best national pavilion. In 2015 he was one of three artists selected to participate in the 11th Novo Banco PHOTO Award, held at the Berardo Collection Museum in Lisbon that same year Chagas participated in the Ocean of Images exhibition, the New Photography at the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA in New York. Edson Chagas has developed a work more introspective and outside the standards of “photojournalism”. The artist lives and works in Luanda, Angola.
