About

SÍNCOPES is a sonic fiction series of 5 episodes, inspired by Black women who inhabited the city of Lisbon in the early 20th century. Authors Cristina Roldão (sociologist), XEXA (producer, sound designer, visual artist), and Zia Soares (stage director, actress) propose an ultra-narrative from within, from within themselves, the three of them, and from what they dared to imagine.

The first episode will have a simultaneous, face-to-face, and virtual premiere on October 13, 2024, and the four subsequent episodes will be released weekly on the platform (Hangar Online, Spotify, Apple Music). All episodes will have free access.

SÍNCOPES is a tottering journey through the city of Lisbon, Santiago, Cachéu, Salvador, Harlem, São Tomé or, yet, perhaps, Maputo or Bié, a journey made of propulsive sounds of advances and recoils, friction or confluences. From noise, to music, to words,

They talk.

There’s a talk.

They’ll be talked about.

We talk.

Do ruído, à música, à palavra,

Falam.

Fala-se.

Falar-se-á.
