[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text]“Covered in dark. Behind her word, beneath that rhyme; Tulip”<\/strong> looks at vocality at the border of language and meaning. The voice is explored, together with singer Kristine Nowlain<\/strong>, through guttural sounds and noises, performed in opera warmup exercises. Cyanotype images of a window blind -pointing towards visuality and voyerism- links the gaze to the voice and the anatomy of the mouth; in themes of exposure, release\/imprisonment, the negative and the dark room.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content”][vc_column][vc_separator color=”black”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Mariella Louise Otto<\/strong>, b. 1990, is a Swedish artist, currently living and working in Malm\u00f6. She received her Bachelor degree from Bergen Art Academy, in 2016 and graduated with an MA in Fine Arts from Malm\u00f6 Art Academy, in 2019.<\/p>\n

Otto\u2019s work often depart from ideas on language and ways in which we embody, stage or enact narratives \u2013 considering the body as a \u2018site of information\u2019 or \u2018scene\u2019, with connections to our socio-political present and past. Archive material, historical figures and texts are merged with her own material and images, in formats of video montage, installation, sound, assemblage or printed matter.<\/p>\n

In the past years she has exhibited works at, Bloc Projects (Sheffield, GB), Galleri KVIT (Copenhagen, DK), Friday Exit (Vienna, AU), KICA (Krasnodar, RU), Skissernas Museum (Lund, SE) and Inter Arts Center (Malm\u00f6, SE). Otto has recently received Erik S\u00e4\u00e4f’s Fond from Konstakademien, 2020 as well as The Swedish Arts councils assistant grant, to work with visual artist, \u00c2ngela Ferreira, in Portugal. During her time in Lisbon, she participated in a one month residency at Hangar Cia(2021). This summer, she has been commissioned to produce a sound-piece, for the project \u201cRaumdeuter Radio\u201d, curated by Joe Rowley, launching as part of GIBCA, (Gothenburgs International Biennial for Contemporary Art). Outside her own praxis, Otto works with art education and writing, also co-running the newly opened Malmo Gallery, \u201cCanopy\u201d.<\/p>\n
