Moorman will discuss her new book\u00a0Powerful Frequencies: Radio, State Power, and the Cold War in Angola, 1931-2002<\/i>\u00a0(Ohio, 2019). With a film clip, a song, and part of a recorded radio transmission she will focus on \u201cthe sound of socialism,\u201d or the transformation of radio in Angola in the first years of independence.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content”][vc_column][vc_separator color=”black”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Marissa Moorman<\/b>\u00a0is an Associate Professor of African History and of Cinema and Media Studies at Indiana University-Bloomington. She is the author of\u00a0Intonations: a Social History of Music and Nation in Luanda, Angola, 1945-Recent Times<\/i>\u00a0(Ohio University Press, 2008) and\u00a0Powerful Frequencies: Radio, State Power, and the Cold War in Angola, 1931-2002<\/i>\u00a0(Ohio University Press, 2019).\u00a0<\/i>Moorman has published on music, fashion, film, radio, and urban space. She is on the editorial board of\u00a0Africa is a Country<\/i>, the blog that is not about Bono, famine or Obama,\u00a0where she is also a regular contributor.
