It is supported by the French Ministry of Culture and collaborates with a host of international academic and art institutions.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2018\u201319 session: California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles; the Galerie Art &amp; Essai, Universit\u00e9 Rennes 2. For a full list of partners consult our web platform.<\/p>\n<p>Art by Translation proposes an experimental platform allowing projects to develop organically in various contexts and in different forms: artworks, architectural constructions, exhibitions, study sessions, symposia and publications with prominent invited lecturers. Its model breaks with the classical \u201cresearch-exhibition-publication\u201d chronology and aims to reconfigure the traditional boundaries between disciplines. The program stimulates collaborations and exchanges, encouraging the redistribution of roles and competencies. Projects are not considered as final results but rather as stages in a process and points of departure for further elaborations.<\/p>\n<p>Two main projects will act as case studies or research models:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2013The House of Dust\u00a0<\/em>by Alison Knowles, a seminal work from 1967 involving the translation of a computer-generated poem into architectures and events is reinterpreted in the present by contemporary artists, architects and researchers. A session at CalArts including seminars, performances and a symposium will inaugurate a year of collective research leading to an exhibition at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013An exhibition at Galerie Art &amp; Essai, Universit\u00e9 Rennes 2 and \u00c9cole Sup\u00e9rieure des Beaux Arts TALM Angers staging the continuous live production of a film which questions the translation between artworks, events, performances and their filmic documentation. The Art by Translation participants will collaborate with invited artists and film directors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Associated researchers for 2018\u201319<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\nCl\u00e9lia Barbut,\u00a0Julien Bismuth, Lo\u00efc Blairon, Anthony Carfello, Ken Ehrlich, Priscilla Fraser, Mark Geffriaud, Aur\u00e9lie Godard, Jeff Guess, Hannah Higgins, Maud Jacquin, Alison Knowles, Lou Maria Le Brusq, S\u00e9bastien Pluot, Julien Pr\u00e9vieux, Julia Robinson, Janet Sarbanes, Ines Schraber, Joshua Schwebel, Yann Serandour, Daniela Silvestrin, Anthony Vidler, Nicole Woods, Anne Zeitz etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conditions\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2013Travel and accommodations are paid by the program.<br \/>\n\u2013Each participant receives a production budget of 2000 EUR<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2013The selected candidates will participate in all of the program\u2019s work sessions and exhibitions, produce works and present their practice in various contexts.<br \/>\n\u2013The candidates must have a Master\u2019s degree from a university and\/or art school (5 years or equivalent).<br \/>\n\u2013The program is in English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candidacies<\/strong><br \/>\nSelection is based on the quality of the work and its relationship with the theme of research: translation in the arts. Performance practices will be a major focus point of this year\u2019s work session. A crucial criteria is the ability to work collaboratively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application requirements<\/strong><br \/>\nWe invite the candidates to provide the following documents:<br \/>\n\u2013Detailed resume.<br \/>\n\u2013Portfolio.
