[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”5px”][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text]Maryam Kazeem is a writer, and the founder of IRANTI PRESS, a publishing project based in Nigeria. She completed her MFA residency at the California Institute of the Arts as a Truman Capote Fellow where she also taught courses in Black cultural and performance studies as a Teaching Fellow for the School of Critical Studies. She has a BA in African Studies from Northwestern University and an MSc in Gender from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her creative work makes connections between abstraction, archival research, and portraiture and has appeared in platforms including Criterion, Literary Hub, Catapult, Another Gaze, Apogee, and Joyland amongst others. She was one of twelve finalists in the African Artists Foundation National Art Competition in 2015, selected by a panel of judges including renowned Ghanaian sculptor and artist, El- Anatsui, where she presented \u201cRememory\u201d a multimedia \u2018wall of remembrance\u2019 of major moments of women\u2019s political action in Nigeria based on her archival research and interviews of women who protested naked. Her writing has been nominated for The Best of the Net, and she has also received grants and awards from the Juniper Institute and the California Institute of the Arts. In 2021, she was the winner of the Goethe-Institut + Huza Press Writing Gender Residency in Kigali, Rwanda.
