He studied\u00a0documentary photography in Newport at the University of South Wales (2008), London\u00a0College of Communication (2007), Escola T\u00e9cnica de Imagem e Comunica\u00e7\u00e3o in Portugal\u00a0(2002) and Centro Comunit\u00e1rio de Arcena in Portugal (1999).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Solo exhibitions have\u00a0taken place at Stevenson Gallery (2014\/2015), Instituto Cam\u00f5es &#8211; Centro Cultural\u00a0Portugu\u00eas, Luanda (2014); Belfast Exposed Photography, Northern Ireland (2014); A\u00a0Palazzo Gallery, Brescia, Italy (2013) and Memorial Agostinho Neto, Luanda (2013).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2013 Chagas represented Angola at the 55th Venice Biennale, the Angolan Pavilion\u00a0winning the Golden Lion for Best National Participation. In 2015 Edson was one of\u00a0three artists shortlisted for the 11th Novo Banco Photo Award, with an exhibition at\u00a0Museu Cole\u00e7\u00e3o Berardo, Lisbon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Notable group exhibitions include, Disguised opened\u00a0at Seattle Art Museum (2015-2016) and now is present at Brooklyn Museum from April\u00a029 \u2013 September 18, (2016); Ocean of images, New Photography at MoMA, New York in\u00a0(2015-2016), The Divine Comedy: Heaven, Purgatory and Hell Revisited by\u00a0Contemporary African Artists, MMK Frankfurt, the Smithsonian National Museum of\u00a0African Art in Washington, DC, and other venues (2014-15), Lagos Photo Festival\u00a0(2014); Shifting Africa &#8211; What the Future Holds, Mediations Biennale, Pozna\u0144,\u00a0Poland, and Kunsthalle Faust, Hannover, Germany (2014); Journal, Institute of\u00a0Contemporary Arts, London (2014); NO FLY ZONE, Unlimited Mileage, Museu Cole\u00e7\u00e3o\u00a0Berardo, Lisbon (2013); Transit, OCA, S\u00e3o Paulo (2013); RAVY Visual Arts Festival,\u00a0Yaound\u00e9 (2012) and the second Luanda Triennial (2010).
