This workshop deals with notions of space and territory and looks at self-build neighbourhoods in suburban Lisbon and at the same time how artists internationally have been referring to these marginalized spaces to reclaim political and social voices. It is a practical and theoretical workshop with invited curators, researchers, architects and artists.<\/div>\n

As a result of the workshop, the students develope in co-creation different art installations, performances and experimentations based on the visits to this territories and the contact with the different artists.<\/p>\n

Sandberg Instituut<\/strong> – Course ‘The Studio for Immediate Spaces (SIS) investigates space in all its forms and implications. It is an autonomous platform for reflections ranging from commentary and analysis to current spatial realities and production processes. Using the tools of the geographer, the urban planner, the architect or the designer, we create new grounds for research, blurring the boundaries between science and politics, art and architecture, interior and exterior. Through field observation, analysis or physical construction we dig into the spaces created by popular culture and contemporary society to reveal new meanings. Public or intimate, permanent or temporary, material or virtual, we are interested as much in the physical quality of space as in its social and political outcomes.<\/p>\n
