Joel Swanson (b. Chicago, Illinois) lives and works in Denver and Boulder, Colorado. Swanson is an artist and writer whose work chiefly explores the failings and glitches of linguistic systems. His work critically subverts the technologies, materials, and underlying structures of language to reveal its idiosyncrasies and inconsistencies. His work ranges from interactive installations to public sculptures that playfully and powerfully question words and their meanings. Swanson is an assistant professor in the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder where he works and teaches at the intersection of language and technology. He received his Masters of Fine Art at the University of California, San Diego with a focus in Computing and the Arts. His artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions such as the Broad Museum in Lansing, The Power Plant in Toronto, the Glucksman in Cork Ireland, and the North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art.…

Before painting, I was a photographer in New York City and London for 18 years, hired by Andy Warhol, and working on assignment for Vogue, British Elle, Interview, The London Sunday Times Magazine, Bomb, and others. In the early 1980’s I moved to New York City with the outlandish idea of becoming a fashion photographer because I was intrigued by the intensely theatrical possibilities in that world, and it’s feminine power, which now translates more purely for me to painting. I wanted to capture the female or child figure and attitude within allegory and narrative, which is also my focus for painting. I have a master’s degree in art education from Montclair State University and a bachelor’s degree in English literature from University of California at Berkeley. Vanessa Fernandes by Ricardo
Vanessa Fernandes (1978, Guiné-Bissau) lived in Paris, Macau, Porto-Portugal, Germany and returns to Porto in 2012 where she lives till today. Made tow year in Communication Design at Fine Arts of Porto; completed the course of Sound and Image at the Catholic University of Porto; and in July 2016 Master in Film and Television Directing at ESAP. Vanessa participated in the III Layounne Street Festival, Western Sahara in 2018 with installation and video projection. She is currently doing a series for RTPlab “Mathematics Salteada” with Inês Guimarães (Mathgurl), and the documentary “Talea Jacta est” is a Porto rock band with Pedro Pestana and João Pais Filipe, winners of the Porto Creatorship 2018/19.
