Hangar invites young people from the African Diaspora or immigrants, between 18 and 30 years old to apply to the workshop Photography and the Power of Storytelling to be held at Hangar from December 18 to 21, 2017, from 11am to 5pm.
In this workshop Nii Obodai would like participants to explore the following subthemes:
Portraiture and visual narrative
- Discussing portraiture as visual narrative
- The making of portraits to tell a story
Our world is in a seemingly volatile state of affairs
- Discussing the current affairs and its effect on us
- How is photography being used to report current affairs
- Identifying images that attract our attention. Why do they?
- Making and using photographs as a response
Participants will need to bring their own camera.

Biography
Francis Nii Obodai Provencal is a photographer based in Accra, Ghana. His photography investigates aspects of the complex relationships within urban and rural culture, recording the dynamic reality of our spirituality and environment, telling the stories of the people he connects with. He has exhibited widely.
Nii Obodai is a founding member of the Accra based, Beyond Collective. He has established Nuku Studio, which facilitates an annual workshop program to develop photographic knowledge, creativity, visual literacy and better communication skills for photographers. The studio also offers residencies and photographic project management support services.
