A new film festival in Aberystwyth, Wales, Tonnau Short Film Fest aims to screen works by established artists as well as students, exploring the theme of New Beginnings in the 2022 edition.
New Beginnings may refer to shifts in ecological thinking, new landscapes and connections to place, or more radical and utopian notions of social change. It can also refer to new kinds of narratives and the stories we tell ourselves. We are waiting to be surprised by unexpected ideas and forms.
Tonnau Short Film Fest welcomes films made in the medium of Welsh, which will be previewed by Welsh speakers. Any films not in English must be subtitled in English for exhibition.
We are interested in the submission of films shot on film, and the festival has the capacity to present 16mm prints as well as digital transfers. In addition, we encourage submissions from artistic voices underrepresented in UK film exhibition.
The festival will take place in person in early May at various local venues, including the Aberystwyth Arts Centre Cinema and Star of the Sea in Borth.
Films should be no longer than 20 minutes total, and filmmakers are encouraged to address the theme within and between genres including documentary, narrative, experimental, and creative hybrid forms.
FIlms completed after January 01, 2020 are eligible to submit via Film Freeway starting February 18, 2022: https://filmfreeway.com/TonauFilmFest
Filmmakers who struggle to afford the modest submission fee should email tonnaufilmfest@gmail.com to request a waiver code.
