Nikissi Serumaga is the program manager of 32° East | Ugandan Arts Trust, created for the professional development of Ugandan artists. In conjunction with her colleagues, she develops and executes a year-round programming which showcases the works of 32° East’s previous artists in residence, offers members and residents resources to increase their technical skills and assists them concept development. Previous to the 32° East | Ugandan Arts Trust, she connected with African film through her coordinator role at Encounters Documentary Festival in Cape Town, as programmer at Maisha African Film Festival in Gulu, her support of Africa/Middle East portfolio at Toronto International Film Festival and as casting associate on the feature film Queen of Katwe (dir. Mira Nair, 2016) in Kampala.
Nikissi has also made a short documentary “The Master and the Movie Doctor”, the video piece “Speak Soon” as part of the E.A.S.T pop-up residency and installation, “Our Things” with Ugandan photographer Darlyne Komukama.
She has also been published in Pencil Tribe Magazine and in Toronto International Film Festival’s “Review” as well has featuring on their “Yo! Adrien” podcasts.
