Lives and works in Praia, Santiago. Photographer and filmmaker, in 2006 he launched PRAIA.MOV, an urban culture movement in the city of Praia, Cabo Verde, in collaboration with architects, artists and other critical thinkers. In 2009 he produced the video installation UTOPIA which considered the subject of freedom. ROOT(S), one of the videos of this project, received the Audience Award and an Honorable Mention at the Sal International Film Festival, Cabo Verde, 2010. In 2011 he was invited to the Biennial of Sao Tome and Principe for which he produced the video SPRITU, presented at the City Museum, Lisbon in 2012. During this same period, he exhibited UTOPIA at Gra\u00e7a Brand\u00e3o Gallery, also in Lisbon. He is co-founder of the Black Cinema platform www.ficine.org and was the Coordinator of the Department of Cinema and Media Arts at the Ministry of Culture of Cabo Verde from 2012 to 2016.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>LAILA HIDA (MOROCCO)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Laila Hida (Casablanca, Morocco, 1983). Lives and works in Marrakech. Laila has been a freelance photographer and cultural activist since 2002. By founding Le 18 Derb el ferrite, an alternative cultural space and artist residency in the old medina of Marrakech, Laila has organized, with the collaboration of local and international artists, researchers and cultural actors, exhibitions, series of meetings, workshops and alternative educational projects which all tackle at different levels the major lines of the artist research. Her latest works focus mainly on portraits and staged photography depicting different situations, imaginary, both absurd and surrealistic.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>LEAH GORDON (UK)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Leah Gordon (Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, 1959). Lives and works in London. Leah is a multi-media artist who curates, collects, researches, writes and directs. She works across a variety of media including film, photography and installations, often including commissioned sculpture and painting. Modernism and architecture, the slave trade and industrialisation, grassroots religious, class and folk histories are subjects of her work. She is the co-director of the Ghetto Biennale in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; was a curator for the Haitian Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale; was the co-curator of \u2018Kafou: Haiti, History &amp; Art\u2019 at Nottingham Contemporary, UK; on the curatorial team for \u2018In Extremis: Death and Life in 21st Century Haitian Art\u2019 at the Fowler Museum, UCLA and was the guest curator for the 2016 NYC Outsider Art Fair. In 2015, Leah Gordon and her partner Andr\u00e9 Eug\u00e8ne were the recipients of the Colecci\u00f3n Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Travel Award for Central America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>JEANNE MERCIER (FR)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jeanne Mercier is critic and an independent curator . She is co-founder and editor of Africa in Visu, the first photography exchange platform and network in Africa. She has made a statement in 2005 on \u201dThe African Photography Encounters\u201d and is working on new practices and forms of dissemination of photography in North and West Africa. She divides her time between Africa in Visu and cultural programming consulting activities around contemporary photographic practices, and is a photographer of the issues in Africa. She currently teaches in Morocco and France, and writes for various artistic and photographic magazines.
