Jo\u00e3o Paulo Serafim<\/h5>\n

Born in 1974 in Paris. Lives and works in Lisbon.<\/p>\n

His work in photography manipulates reality by use of mannequins and models or through manipulation of already existing images, making fine lines of the borders between reality and the artificial.<\/p>\n

Jo\u00e3o Paulo Serafim often exhibits his work individually; in 2008, he presented “The Improbable Museum” at the Centro Cultural da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Calouste Gulbenkian of Paris and at the Museu Blanes in Montevideo. In 2006, he presented “Je t’aime moi non plus” at the project Box4 of the Galeria Silva Cintra in Rio de Janeiro and at the Galeria Baginski in Lisbon in 2005. Also, in 2005, he presented “Klauzal T\u00e9r,” at an individual exhibition at the Centro Cultural Emmerico Nunes in Sines and at the Arquivo Municipal of Lisbon– Photography.<\/p>\n

He has participated in several collective exhibitions: in 2008 he participated in the “Paisagem & Povoamento” at the Centro Cultural Em\u00e9rico Nunes in Sines, Portugal; “Nuit de l’Europe” at the Recontres d’Arles, France; “AAFNY (Affordable Art Fair of New York)”, New York, USA; and “Substance” in Spike Island, Bristol, UK. In 2007 he participated in “Remembering Jack Kerouac” at Espa\u00e7o Avenida, Lisbon; “Open Studio do S\u00edtio das Artes” at CAMJAP\/Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon; “Young Art Europe 2007,” at Moya– Museum of Young Art, in Vienna, Austria; and “Homo Migratus” at the Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Portugal.<\/p>\n

Since\u00a02007, he has participated in the production of various theatre pieces like:\u00a0\u201cEnsaio\/Essay\u201d by Victor Hugo Pontes, \u201cLar Doce Lar\u201d by Maria Gil, and \u201cPasseio ao Norte 1963\u201d by Joana Craveiro, Jo\u00e3o Paulo Serafim and\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Gon\u00e7alo Alegria.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2006, he won the Fotografia da\u00a0 <\/span>Purificaci\u00f3n Garc\u00eda award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jo\u00e3o Paulo Serafim has represented his work in various important collections like:\u00a0Museu MACE, collection\u00a0of Ant\u00f3nio Cachola em \u00a0Elvas, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o PLMJ in Lisbon as well as in the collections of the Banco Privado, Centro de Arte Moderna da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o \u00a0Calouste Gulbenkian \u00a0and in the BES-ART of the Banco Esp\u00edrito Santo collection; In Spain he has a work found in the\u00a0Purificaci\u00f3n Garc\u00eda collection.<\/p>\n
