The Residences in Transit Program follows the same format as the residences in Hangar in terms of structure and methodology, but is developed towards a cultural exchange between Portugal and foreigner countries.
\nThese residences take place in various destinations through collaborations with artists, art spaces and local guides for creative input and cultural exchanges.
\nResidences in Transit aims to facilitate the encounter of different nationalities and the exchange of ideas through artistic practices in the areas of visual arts, performance, music, photography and video. The goal is to develop a residence during an artistic trip which, by its site-specific nature, creates opportunities for local artists and audiences and promotes cultural exchanges.<\/p>\n

The artists participate either by invitation and by an Open Call. The program aims to correct asymmetries of access to cultural creation and to international residences, by offering conditions that help the development of artistic projects in a context of cultural exchange between the partners and artists involved in the project.<\/p>\n

The strategic partners are: RRAM (Sao Tome), Kooshk (Iran), Panal 361 (Buenos Aires), Paos (Mexico City). Hangar also develops residences in Ethiopia. In 2018, the Residences in Transit Program joined Hangar and Red Gate Residency, in Beijing. This program resulted in the meeting between the Portuguese artist and Hangar co-founder, M\u00f3nica de Miranda, who is currently in residency in Beijing and Zhao Xu, an exchange artist between Red Gate Residency and Hangar, who just arrived from his residency in Lisbon. The artists shared their experiences and the development of their projects and work during the residency period.<\/p>\n

Jo\u00e3o Grama will be the next Portuguese artist participating in the program Residencies in Transit. In October, Grama will go to S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 e Pr\u00edncipe, for two weeks of research at Ro\u00e7a Resid\u00eancia Art\u00edstica do Mundo. Residencies in Transit is a collaborative\u00a0 program in Hangar that happens in several destinations through cooperation between artists and art spaces.<\/p>\n

We are happy to announce that our Residency in \u200bT\u200bransit \u200bProgram \u200bin collaboration with China will receive in July 2018 the chinese artist \u200bZhao Xu through the partnershiop with\u00a0Red Gate Residency.<\/p>\n

We are happy to announce that the Portuguese artist Maria Trabulo will participate in our Residency in \u200bT\u200bransit \u200bProgram \u200bin collaboration with \u200bIran. She will travel to Tehran in January 2019, for a month at Kooshk\u200b Residency.\u200b<\/p>\n

Residences in transit, Hangar’s collaborative program that takes place in various destinations through collaborations between artists and art spaces, begins its first exchange with China in August 2018, when artist M\u00f3nica de Miranda (PT) will travel to Beijing, China to Red Gate Residency. M\u00f3nica de Miranda, an artist and researcher born in Porto (Portugal) of Angolan parents, describes herself as an artist working in the diaspora. Her work is based on urban archeology and personal geography.<\/p>\n

Residencies in transit, Hangar\u2019s collaborative program that take place in various destinations through collaborations with artists and art spaces, welcomes Olavo Amado, artist \u00a0from Ro\u00e7a Resid\u00eancia Art\u00edstica do Mundo, S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 e Pr\u00edncipe.<\/p>\n

Amado will be at Hangar during March 2018. A self-taught artist, in 2002 he began his career in S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9, where he lives and works.<\/p>\n

We are happy to announce that our new cycle of Residencies in transit in collaboration with other independent art spaces had began with R.A.P. Residencias de Arte Panal, in Buenos Aires – Argentina with the Portuguese artist Andreia Santana and will take place between December 2017 and January 2018. More residencies will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n
